Lincoln, Mayor La Guardia, Janet Gaynor, Max Baer, Charlie Keller, Charles Boyer, my school and the process thru adolescence, the War years, marriage and life. About the Author :
William L. Plack. Born March 13th, 1924, in Laurel Springs, NJ, of Violet Edwards Plack and Willis Eugene Plack - Mother went to sanitarium in Sioux Falls, SD, for TB, her big sister Dora took over my care. Mother died and I was raised by Dora and Jay Durfee in Stewart Manor, Long Island, NY, with their daughter Eleanor, 8 years my senior. After school job 1940 delivery by bike all bakery products. Summer jobs, 1939, 1940, Jr councilor all boys' camp, Lake George, NY. Summers 41 & 42 - survey crew Phila Navy Yard, 1 semester Lafayette College. Drafted Jan 1943, Basic, FL and Radio School, Chicago, ILL, . AF Volunteer Para Troop 44 - rejected eyes - served in Europe - combat engineers until V.J. day - 1 semester Hofstra in Hempstead, but reenlisted - served in Newfoundland, then NJ, Korea, Japan, GA, Germany, New York, Alaska and California. Graduated Sac State - major History & minor Psych - chose Co. Social work over teaching Jr High - major mistake. Retired from Co. after over twenty years volunteered - calls bingo rest home over 20 years. Also volunteered for Kaiser Blood pressure and hospice - military skills - air traffic control - control tower operator - memorial affairs specialist, group historian and public affairs specialist, clerk and radio op.
