About the Book

Men and women of all ages and backgrounds will resonate to the gentle powerful poetry of Janet Reiko Oshiro. The messages of love and hope, devotion and trust, harmony and acceptance ring from every line of "An Inextinguishable Light," a book of poetry that will take you beyond the realm of words. Oshiro, who practices Siddha Yoga meditation and is a cancer survivor, will lead you along many pathways that define her emotional and spiritual being. Creating images with words, the poet will share her vision of life - the fragile and difficult, the challenging and hopeful - while at the same time illuminating the magnificence of the world around you. Whether she is writing from the heart, the soul, the mind's eye, or a gestalt approach, you will feel the power of her phrasing and the intimacy of her observations. Her journey becomes that of the reader, a foray into the emotions and experiences that combine to define a life lived fully and without guile.

About the Author :
I was born and raised in Hawaii, and graduated from Woodbury College in Los Angeles in 1961. After returning home, I got married and started my banking career in the lending division of a local bank. At age 39 I was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 2. After surgery and 1-1/2 years of aggressive chemotherapy and 5 weeks of radiation treatment, I decided it was time to change my lifestyle and looked for a ways to relieve my stress from my demanding career as a lending officer. At age 50, I decided to end my 27 years of banking and took early retirement. I went on a spiritual journey to India to find my true self and found my spiritual master and have been practicing Siddha Yoga Meditation for 20 years. My poems reflect my personal experiences with individuals who have touched my life and made a difference in who I am today. My poems also reveal my love for nature as well. My gratitude and love are also in the simple phrases describing the inner journey to find inner peace and my true self.
