About the Book

Business is poor at Mrs Hippo’s Pizza Parlour. William and Mrs Hippo are worried, but when accident-prone Ellie Bear comes to play with William, she takes all their attention! Mrs Hippo decides to take the youngsters out for a ride in her motorbike sidecar, to keep Ellie out of harm’s way. After an eventful journey through the town, they end up on the beach, where Ellie writes her name in the sand, and William copies the idea with the message “Mrs Hippo’s Pizzas Are The Best!” That night there is a long queue outside the Pizza Parlour, and Mrs Hippo and William have to work hard to keep up with demand . . .

About the Author :
Vivian French was best known at school for talking too much. She continued her attachment to words by becoming first an actor, then a storyteller and finally a writer of children's books. She now travels all over the world, telling stories and swapping ideas about books and writing with children and adults . . . and, she admits, she still talks too much.

Review :
Children's Literature With fewer pictures, longer paragraphs, and short chapters, this book builds confidence in a child's ability to read a story. The vocabulary is simple, yet stimulating. Children's Literature Each features large, well-spaced type and entertaining stories with bright illustrations. These books were indeed designed with the young reader in mind. These books were indeed designed with the young reader in mind. Nicole Peterson - Children's Literature William Hippo was celebrating his birthday on Sunday, but money was tight since his mother's pizza parlor was empty, and he knew that he probably would not be able to have the bicycle he wanted. This book in the "I Am Reading" series is a little bit more advanced than others in the series. This book is a "chapter book" (very short chapters with numbered pages). With fewer pictures, longer paragraphs, and short chapters, this book builds confidence in a child's ability to read a story. The vocabulary is simple, yet stimulating. The last page of the story contains "Strategies for Independent Readers." This is a set of ideas such as predicting what the book will be about, asking questions about important ideas in the story, or evaluating the book. These strategies should help the independent reader to better understand the book and gain more confidence in reading abilities. 2004 (orig. 1999), Houghton Mifflin Company/Kingfisher, Ages 6 to 8. Children's Literature If no one comes to buy pizza at Mrs. Hippo's Pizza Parlor then the family would not have any money to go shopping...and if there was no shopping that meant no bicycle for William's birthday. William sets out to discover where everyone is eating and why no one is buying pizza anymore. His adventure finally takes him to the beach. Discover how William saves the family business and has the best birthday ever. This is one of several "I Am Reading" books. Each features large, well-spaced type and entertaining stories with bright illustrations. These books were indeed designed with the young reader in mind. 2000, Kingfisher, Ages 6 to 9, $3.95.
