About the Book

This comprehensive Second Edition offers readers a complete guide to carrying out research projects involving structural equation modeling (SEM). Updated to include extensive analysis of AMOS' graphical interface, a new chapter on latent curve models and detailed explanations of the structural equation modeling process, this second edition is the ideal guide for those new to the field.

The book includes:

  • Learning objectives, key concepts and questions for further discussion in each chapter.
  • Helpful diagrams and screenshots to expand on concepts covered in the texts.
  • Real life examples from a variety of disciplines to show how SEM is applied in real research contexts.
  • Exercises for each chapter on an accompanying companion website.
  • A new glossary.

Assuming no previous experience of the subject, and a minimum of mathematical knowledge, this is the ideal guide for those new to SEM and an invaluable companion for students taking introductory SEM courses in any discipline.

Review :
This is a cutting-edge update of a comprehensive and highly successful textbook. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone who wants to get to grips with structural equasion modeling in AMOS.
K. V. Petrides
London Psychometric Laboratory, University College London

The most accessible book on structural equation modeling just became even more accessible. Using realistic datasets and generous insight, this text effectively covers both theoretical understanding and, importantly, successful application of SEM. Blunch is the must-have resource for researchers, advanced undergraduates and graduate students.
Julie Davies
School of Psychology, Bangor University

This is an excellent reference book for Structural Equation Modelling in AMOS. This covers both theoretical as well as applied side of SEM. I would recommend it to anyone interested for applied research with SEM. useful book which will be used with masters students as supplemental I cannot recommend this book to my students because it is developed from a very advance point of view for them. I am afraid that maybe they are not able to follow the explanations right now. Nonetheless, I think that it should be a very useful text for their thesis, so I will highly recommend them to keep the reference for their future. Meanwhile, they need to improve their basic data analysis skills with some other handbooks. This is a clear and well written introduction to Structural Equation Modelling. The examples provided clarify with great skill the techniques underpinning the process. This is a must read for all those who wish to use SEM. An excellent textbook to introduce the course of structural equation modeling! Excellent book - easy to follow considering the subject area and for those students who want to learn more about SEM then this is a good starting point. this is very good book to everyone who works with AMOS Excellent book!, a delight to read. Very impressive examples using GUI with AMOS This book offers a sound introduction to structural equation modelling and I recommend it to students working with this methodology in their dissertations. A well considered work that is hugely valuable for postgraduate students undertaking SEM. This is a very useful textbook which covers SEM in the level of detail that I need. Relating the content to SPSS AMOS is particulary valuable. The textbook is not for the faint hearted and I found that it was not easy to dip in and out of the chapters until a very good understanding of the fundamental principles was achieved - fair enough. Any research student considering regression modelling would be advised to at least read chapters one and two of this text. Easy to follow. Well explained. A very comprehensive guide into the use of structural equation modeling with AMOS. The right amount of statistical background combined with easy to understand and comprehensible examples that increase in complexity through the book. The English is clear and easy to follow without losing scientific standards, even for non-native speakers.

In addition, the supplement material provided is excellent, from exercises and data used in the book to published online readings in your field of research.

If you think about starting to work with AMOS and SEM, this book provides as a good starting point.
This is an excellent book with comprehensive content that help the readers to who really want to learn Structural Equation Modelling in AMOS. I recommend it to purchase and using it as a reference, because worth buying it.

Shahrokh Nikou
Åbo Akademi Univeristy Great book recommended for students who intend to analyse multiple variables using quantitative techniques. Clear and easy to follow on a complex topic, but too advanced for this course. Clear and easy to follow, but deemed too advanced on this occasion. A comprehensive text on SEM. This is an advanced statistical text and for that reason I will recommend it as a supplemental text for students wishing to use SEM in final year dissertations. I really liked the book as an introduction to SEM for my own work (postgraduate). However, students reported that it was hard to read since advanced knowledge of statistics is assumed. Too advanced for MA students; PhD students would benefit though The reason that I′m not going to adopt this book is simply because there are better books regarding SEM than Blunch. If you′re looking for a simple and basic introduction to SEM I think that Amanda Byrnes books are a lot better. If you′re looking for a more thorough coverage of SEm there are also books that do a better job than Blunch (for instance Rex Kline or "Handbook of structural equation modeling" edited by Rick Hoyle)." This is a good introductory text for those starting out with structural equation modelling. Possibly more suited to students at Level 6 or above. Very accessible introduction to the topic of Structural Equation Modelling, with a clear focus on social science students. With an emphasize on non-technical issues, and plenty of real world examples I strongly believe this is a very suitable book for students within various fields of social science. Although I′ve said this will be a supplemental text I will strongly recommend it to any of our trainees who are thinking about or planning to use structural equation modelling. It is the most readable introductory book on the topic I′ve found so far. Advanced for students level This book is a wonderful practical compendium. SEM is a specialist topic but this is a very useful book for those students (and staff) who need to use it for their research projects. The use of IBM SPSS and AMOS is well described and makes it a very useful ′how-to′ book as well as giving good coverage of the principles and underlying concepts. Excellent source for advanced statistics This textbook provides great explanation of how to use SPSS when conducting SEM
