About the Book

Life is looking up these days for Chicago PI Cat DeLuca. Her Pants on Fire Detective Agency is booming, and FBI boyfriend, Chance Savino, still curls her toes. She both adores and dodges her outrageous Italian family. Mama's latest scheme to marry her off involves a romantic cruise, insane amounts of champagne, and a hijacked priest to tie the knot.

But Cat's near-perfect world is thrown into a tailspin when Captain Bob's dog is kidnapped and a ghost from the past threatens to expose a terrible secret. Cat launches an investigation that leads her to a decades-old armed robbery, an unsolved murder, and a fresh body.

But when she unearths a wicked truth about Papa and Bob, her trust is shattered, and the detective finds herself faced with the most daunting dilemma of her life.

Cat DeLuca is an unexpected heroine. She's tenacious, unstoppable, and rocks the heck out of a pair of Jimmy Choo's. In a wild race against time, she inches closer to the truth and into the sights of a killer. And all the while, a man who got away with murder twice is closing in on Cat.

There Was a Crooked Man is a labyrinth of twists and turns packed with suspense. It's a tale of betrayal and second chances and the utterly astonishing things we do to save the ones we love.

About the Author :
K. J. Larsen is the pen name for three sisters who, linked by a voracious love of mysteries, set out to write their own. Julianne, Kristen, and Kari Larsen--horse trainer, minister, and irreverent baker--cowrite the Cat DeLuca Mysteries. Their debut novel, Liar Liar, was named a Library Journal Best Book of 2010 in Mysteries. The three sisters live in the Chicago area and the Pacific Northwest, with a shameless menagerie of dogs, cats, horses, and one misbehaved rabbit. Carol Monda is an Earphones Award-winning narrator and accomplished voice-over artist. She is also an award-winning actor known for her work in Out of Season, After You Left, and The Gentlemen.

Review :

"Author K. J. Larsen...is an aficionado of high priced high heels and teeters on those stilettos as she tracks down a dognapper and a killer...Delightful book."

-- "Bookloons"

"Despite efforts to be a businesslike PI, Cat lands in multiple scrapes, thanks to her smart-mouthed, colorful associates and sheer gutsiness."

-- "Booklist"

"Narrator Carol Monda's husky, sensual voice is perfectly suited to Cat DeLuca, founder of the Pants-on-Fire Detective Agency...Besides voicing the capable detective, Monda finds unique and clever voices for zany characters such as Cat's mother, sister Sophie, and boyfriend Chance Savino, who is an FBI agent...Monda's pacing adds to her unique and engaging personality...Monda's charming narration is wonderfully suited to Cat and her lovable family."

-- "AudioFile"

"The wisecracking PI must fend off dual mortal threats--one from desperate bad guys, another from her matchmaking, cannoli-baking mother."

-- "Publishers Weekly"
