About the Book

'It's been over a decade since I sat down in a small back bedroom in Somerset and wrote this book. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to work with literally thousands of people in the world of education. Through all these experiences, I've picked up loads more great ideas about how to manage behaviour. I've also gained an insight into what works in different settings, with different young people, and for different kinds of staff. The basic tenets of this book remain faithful to the original. What I've done though is adapt and develop the ideas so that they apply to more practitioners, in more diverse situations: to those working in early years and further education, as well as primary and secondary schools. And for those of you working in the most challenging schools or colleges, I've included a new section on coping in really difficult circumstances. I've also taken advantage of new developments in the world of technology. So, there's a companion website offering you extra material, links and ideas.' Sue Cowley

Review :
'What a fab little book for any new teacher! This gives some excellent ideas for getting your class to behave. And I teach adults in further education, but equally applies to younger students. This is a must have for ANY teacher!' Amazon reviewer 'The advice given is clear and practical and therefore much easier to follow. Sue Cowley also avoids the theory behind learning and the psycho-analysis that may make the topic of classroom/behaviour management tedious and somewhat abstract. The practical "real" advice given that you can use is what makes the book 5 stars for me.' Amazon reviewer 'Written with Sue Cowley's characteristic humour and sharp wit, this is a must have for all teachers - full of practical, easy to use and effective ideas.' Teach Primary 'Absolutely brilliant for ideas on behaviour management. It's a really good, easy read, and the only one I've felt like reading from cover to cover.' Amazon reviewer 'This book delivers everything it offers; practical advice for the classroom, in a really readable book. I enjoyed reading it, I like the style and it has absolutely no jargon.' Amazon reviewer 'This book is well written and gives some great advice for dealing with different levels of disruptive behaviour, including setting ground rules and following sanctions. I would definitely recommend this to any new teacher fearful of bad behaviour.' Amazon reviewer ... the author draws upon her own experiences and the examples she gives and suggestions she makes are realistic. Her advice is succinct and easy to follow... a valuable book to read whether you are an experienced teacher... a senior leader... or a student. Author Sue Cowley quoted in The Times (Weekend) article on 'Choosing a School- the ten key questions'.
