About the Book
Forest of Fortune tells the story of three haunted souls--an alcoholic, an epileptic, and a gambling addict--who try to turn their luck around at a decrepit Indian casino. But something's not right at Thunderclap Casino. As the three of them come to terms with the ways in which they are haunted by the past and struggle with their addictions, they must confront the malevolent force that won't rest until old wrongs have been made right.
About the Author :
Jim Ruland is a Navy veteran, former Indian casino employee, and author of the short story collection "Big Lonesome." He is the host of "Vermin on the Mount," an irreverent reading series based in Southern California. He is a columnist for the indie music zine "Razorcake" and writes "The Floating Library," a books column, for "San Diego CityBeat." His work has been published in "The Believer," "Esquire," "Hobart," "Granta," the "Los Angeles Times," "McSweeney's," "Oxford American," and elsewhere. Ruland's awards include a fellowship from the NEA, and he was the winner of the 2012 "Reader's Digest" Life Story Contest. He is also the author of "Giving the Finger," cowritten with Scott Campbell, Jr. of Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch." He lives in San Diego with his wife, visual artist Nuvia Crisol Guerra.
