About the Book

In 2005, economist Nicholas Stern was commissioned by the British government to direct the largest study ever conducted into the scientific reality of global warming. The Stern Report, which made headlines around the world, is far and away the deepest and most far-reaching exploration into the economic and ethical consequences of this crisis--and, in particular, into the solutions for it. In The Global Deal, Stern has taken that comprehensive and detailed report and produced a concise, vivid book that makes this critical information accessible to all. By understanding the very real risks we run if we continue business as usual, and by working together to enact a new global deal, we can not only avert catastrophe, but create a safer, more sustainable and prosperous world in the process.

About the Author :
Sir Nicholas Stern was adviser to the United Kingdom government on the economics of climate change and development from 2005 to 2007. He was also chief economist and senior vice president of the World Bank. His research and publications have focused on the economics of climate change and the role of the state and economies in transition. James Adams is one of the world's leading authorities on terrorism and intelligence, and for more than twenty-five years he has specialized in national security. He is also the author of fourteen bestselling books on warfare, with a particular emphasis on covert warfare. A former managing editor of the London Sunday Times and CEO of United Press International, he trained as a journalist in England, where he graduated first in the country. Now living in Southern Oregon, he has narrated numerous audiobooks and earned an AudioFile Earphones Award and two coveted Audie Award for best narration.

Review :
"[Stern's] assessment that distinct actions can be pursued by individuals, communities and business firms suggests that the greatest obstacle to collective change--a lack of political will--is not insurmountable...Erudite and effective." -- "Kirkus Reviews" "Enlightening and thought-provoking. The golden-throated narrator, James Adams, speaks BBC English, perfect in pace, enunciation, and volume." -- "AudioFile" By December, when the world's leaders plan to gather in Copenhagen to sign a new global accord on global warming, we'll know whether or not our political systems are up to the unprecedented challenge that climate change represents...Nicholas Stern's new book provides the best scorecard we have for keeping track of this drama as it unfolds. -- "New York Review of Books" Written in sophisticated language, the lofty concepts are somewhat abstract, but the economics-minded will find them enlightening and thought-provoking. -- "Audiofile"
