Review :
Part of Heinemann "Real World Data" series. Includes bibliographical references, index, and a glossary and color illustrations. Shows how to organize data in different forms and how to interpret tables, line graphs, bar graphs, and pie charts. Can be used to tie science and math concepts together. Binding is very sturdy. Will help students learn about population, growth, migration, and resource depletion through use of math visuals. Recommended--Pam Weber, Library Media Specialist, Williams School Arlington Independent School District2/4/2009-- "Arlington Independent School District" This is part of a series that I reviewed earlier in the year. Every school library should have this selection of books. They combine math with a variety of disciplines. Using a numerous types of graphs clarifies a lot of statistical statements that students gloss over. I can't say enough about this series. Recommended--Mitrzepacz, LibrarianDelaware County Library SystemMay 2009-- "Delaware County Library System" This series - "Real World Data" - shows students how to organize data about current topics into various graphs and charts and how to interpret them. The information includes high interest and up-to-date information on energy sources, nutrition, habitats, population, and geology. The color photos and contemporary design add to the easily digestible information. Recommended--Natalie Sunde, Librarian, Nimitz High School Irving Independent School District1/15/2009-- "Irving Independent School District" This series does a nice job of exploring how to take concrete data and use it for making charts and graphs. The tall books are well laid out with text broken up by illustrations and pictures. Math specialists should appreciate the way charts are shown next to the graph. Many kinds of graphs are used throughout: line, bar, circle, and pictographs. But the books are not graphs only. The science on which the graphs add to the accessibility of information. Each volume includes "Chart Smarts" where the kinds of charts are explained along with the type of information that might be better suited to each graph. Colorful and attractive, these volumes will help reinforce how to present information in various formats. These are really a nice addition to current math materials. I can't wait to share them with our math specialist. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites. Index. Recommended.
