Learn about circuits, how electricity is conducted, and which metals are good conductors. Each book in the 'My World of Science' series explains science that you see in the world around you and use every day.

About the Author :
Angela Royston has written many books for young people, including books about people at work, animals, health and the environment.

Review :
Photographs and easy to read text provides young children a basis of understanding on a variety of science concepts. Three questions are posted in each of the books and allows the reader to become involved in the reading. Other books in this 21 volume series include: Color, Conductors & Insulators, Flexible & Rigid, Forces & Motion, Heavy & Light, Hot & Cold, Human Growth, Light & Dark, Living and Nonliving, Magnetic & Nonmagnetic, Magnets, Materials, Natural and Man-made, Shiny & Dull, Smooth & Rough, Soft & Hard, Solids, Liquids, & Gases, Sound & Hearing, Transparent & Opaque, Using Electricity, and Water. Text a little too long to read in its entirety to pre-K, but information and pictures are wonderful for introduction to these great science concepts. Recommended--Kristi Betts, Librarian, Kinkeade ECS, Irving Independent School District--10/3/2008-- "Irving Independent School District" This book is part of the series My World of Science; Heinemann First Library. Each book in the set contains a table of contents, glossary, index, and bibliographical references. The pictures coordinate well with the text and aid in the understanding of the concepts that are presented. The text is well written and informative. Simple sentence structure and vocabulary are utilized. Conductors, insulators, and electricity are discussed. Simple circuits are explained. Explanations of how heat and electricity pass through conductors and are stopped by insulators are included. The books in this series provide wonderful springboards to hands-on science in the classroom. Recommended--Marcia Wood, Library Media Specialist, Roquemore School Arlington Independent School District9/18/2008-- "Arlington Independent School District" This volume in the Heinemann First Library is a great way to teach primary age children about basic physical science topics. The information provided is simple yet engaging for young readers who have a passion for science. The book contains all of the elements of an excellent nonfiction text - Table of Contents, glossary, index, and labeled photos. The book's vibrant photographs focus on situations children encounter daily, such as cooking and watching television, showing young children and adults in real life situations, which serves to draw the reader into the text. The print is the appropriate size to read aloud or for a child reading alone. The font is simple, and the bold words let the reader know of their scientific importance. I would use this book to supplement a unit of study or to answer a child's question about issues surrounding electricity. My third grade students found the text too simple so I would use the book with kindergarten through second grade students. The series would be, however, quite expensive for most schools.
