About the Book

This story is based in Baltimore City, present day. It takes place at the Happy Hour in a new "Night Club" that has just opened in downtown Baltimore. The story features two siblings, Terry and Brannon. It reflects on the events of their childhood which had significant effects on their personal relationships. As children they lived with their mother and uncle Earl. Even though their father was around occasionally, Uncle Earl was the primary male figure in Terri's life. Their father worked as a tractor-trailer driver so he was often gone. He was a man of imperious will and hardened indifference. He was very controlling and treated their mother as if she were his maid-servant born to serve his every need. She somehow seemed to be okay with how she was treated. Even though he had a condescending and patronizing spirit when it came her, she was an easy prey to the powers of folly and just happy to be "Blue's wife." When he came home, he often took Brannon with him but, had little time for Terri. In Brannon's eyes, his father and uncle were very popular amongst their peers and especially with the women. Terri would watch as her father came home, sweet talked her mother, slept with her, and then left. It always angered Terri when her mother begged her father to stay. She would ask her mother to stop letting him do that to her, but each time he came by, it was always the same. "You're too young to understand" her mother would say. "I love him and he loves me too." In Terri's eyes her mother was a weak, old fashioned woman-too submissive for her own good. She was in Church every Sunday, praising the Lord, talking about how good her God is and yet her God allowed her to take the emotional abuse from a man who obviously had no idea who God was. Go figure! This was the same God who allowed the good-for-nothing uncle to affect Terri's life in a way that fueled the anger she had for men and relationships. We will see Terri as she confronts her greatest fears and realizes
