About the Book

This is an engaging story about a young man named Mr. Baron who in 19th century dress falls into the woods during a Summer camp. Two friends, Judith and Jane, discover him, dazed, and help him. In his journey through time, Mr. Baron has lost his memory. We learn about his story through a series of flashbacks and his diary, which he has with him and is read by the others in the camp. It seems Mr. Baron is a science student in a 19th century college, where he discovers a device that enables him to travel through time. His friends learn that he has the device and take it away for his own safety. His girlfriend, Mina, is in trouble and he must choose whether to give up the device, which is unreliable, or take it back from his friends to rescue her, risking both their lives. Later, at camp, he realizes that the rescue attempt has gone wrong and he has landed, far away from her, in another time. Since his arrival, strange things begin happening at the campsite. There are unexplained sightings and time-shifts that affect them all. A box-like object appears from nowhere temporarily trapping the girls. He realises what happened and tries to protect the girls and warn them. However, they've become frightened and suspicious of him, and tell him to leave the camp. Judith and Jane then realise that Mr. Baron needs their help, and they use the time-travel device to travel back to the 19th century to find him and face whatever is slowly destroying their world. They find themselves in a huge laboratory in another place with Mr Baron. They are captured by one of the professors and his daughter (Mina), who have stolen the time travel device to use for their own ends. The professor learns about Mr Baron's use of the device and his possible knowledge of their plans. They fear he knows too much and want him out of the way. Mr Baron and the two girls escape captivity and battle to prevent the professor and Mina from carrying out their plan. In the end, their enemies are overcome, and normality is restored. Mr. Baron returns the girls to their own time, and he returns to college.
