About the Book

This book is the result of some of the random thoughts that occur to me on a daily basis. Some of the poems are from life experiences and some are complete fantasies. However, you will find a lot of truth in most of them. If nothing else, they may take you away from the everyday hassle of being hard at it, trying to make a living and give you some quiet time to unwind.I was born and raised in Kansas and spent my childhood years in the rural part of a city. I was fortunate to be brought up in a close and loving family environment. In fact, my grandparents were only one wheat field away from us. Needless to say, there was a well-worn path between our house and theirs.Iam the oldest of five boys and have an older sister. While growing up, we moved around the country a lot as my father was an aircraft mechanic and was transferred from one state to another. We finally settled in California, where I finished high school and attended a local junior college for one year.I was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and served a year in Vietnam. While there I was awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation medal and the Bronze Star medal. I was honorably discharged from the service in 1968. The whole thing was enlightening as well as a challenging experience.Upon leaving the service I was again indeed fortunate. I met and married the girl of my dreams. Kenna and I have shared our lives now for 36 years and Iam a better man for it. We both were blessed with a wonderful daughter, Melissa, who in turn blessed us with two loving grandchildren, Nicole and Nolan.I love writing poetry and have also made fourteen of the poems included in this book into songs. This is a field I will try to pursueas I find it not only challenging but very satisfying as well. I do model railroading in my spare time and I am still punching a time clock, working at a full time job.
