About the Book

The Three Cords is the first of a series starting in mid 1800's and continuing to modern times. Nicholas and Alexander escape vicious persecution in Russia. They survive the long ocean voyage to Africa. It did not take them long to discover that this untouched beautiful land was also wild and hazardous. There are both warring tribes and wild animals to contend with. Two rescue missions; one in England and the other in Cape Town increases their number to four. These four young people spend a year crossing South Africa looking for that special piece of land to farm. Their joint farms were named 'Four Corners.' This is also the story of a Scottish girl Maureen, and her two sisters. The potato famine took the lives of their family, and destroyed the land they loved. These three girls answered the advertisement for brides needed in Africa. This brought them to Africa around the same time as the Russian boys. The lives of the Russian and Scottish immigrants are filled with hard work, adventure, love and death. Members of these families are affected by the Boer War and its scorched earth policy. This results in both families making a move that changed their lives, from farming to city life. Grandchildren of the Russian and Scottish families meet and marry, so joining these two family lines. Down through the years and generations, their lives were woven around a strong belief that was represented by the three cords. Book One ends with Nicholas's twelve-year old grandson Abraham, and Maureen's teenage granddaughter, Hope. Book two, Love Never Fails, continues with Abraham and Hope's lives and adventure, as they move to Northern Rhodesia.
