The book has very good information about teeth. It covers the different type of teeth, the makeup of a tooth, how to take care of them and how they can be fixed. It is interesting that only two pages actually talk about braces. A better title might have been Teeth and Braces. The photographs and illustrations support the text. At the end of the book is a Glossary, Find Out More and the Index. -Simpson, Hartman School Omaha Public Schools November 2011-- "Omaha Public Schools" The Inside My Body series is written especially for the 3-5 grade level. The book starts off by asking Why do some people wear braces? It then goes on to discuss the science of teeth, why people go to the dentist, and how braces work. All new terms are bolded and contained in a glossary at the end of the book. Colorful, detailed illustrations are abundant throughout the book. In addition, extreme body facts and science behind the myth boxes contain interesting pieces of information for the reader. Detailed anatomy illustrations are also present throughout the book. A section at the end of the book called the body's two sets of teeth contains very interesting facts. Did you know that the molars are the most powerful teeth for crushing and crunching? The end of the book contains a glossary, a section listing additional books and websites to read, and, finally, an index. This is a great nonfiction book for the elementary teacher's library. A final spread reviews the topic. Some subtitles don't accurately reflect the content. Why Do I Burp barely covers diet, while How Do My Muscles Get Strong is mostly on exercise. In Why Do I Have Periods, the photo choices put a depressing spin on menstruation. Though the large illustrations, photographs, micrographs, and insets including Practical Advice, Extreme Facts, and Science Behind the Myth add variety, minor problems mar the illustrations in several titles. For example, one in Asthma Attack shows the heart on the wrong side of the body, and in Pulse, a doctor shown with a patient is not using a stethoscope as the caption states.
