About the Author :
Anthony Horowitz is the author of the number one bestselling Alex Rider books and the Power of Five series. He enjoys huge international acclaim as a writer for both children and adults. After the success of his first James Bond novel, Trigger Mortis, he was invited back by the Ian Fleming Estate to write a second, Forever and a Day. His latest crime novel, The Word Is Murder, introducing Detective Daniel Hawthorne, was a bestseller. Anthony has won numerous awards, including the Bookseller Association/Nielsen Author of the Year Award, the Children’s Book of the Year Award at the British Book Awards, and the Red House Children’s Book Award. Anthony was also awarded an OBE for Services to Literature. He has created and written many major television series, including Collision, New Blood and the BAFTA-winning Foyle’s War. The bestselling Alex Rider adventures are currently being adapted for television.

Review :
As ever, the plotting is meticulous and the pace relentless, but what is new is Alex’s dawning compassion for other children. Pacy and ingenious, as usual, this novel demonstrates a high level of philosophical complexity as it considers the nature of cults, religious extremism and our responsibility for each other, as well as involving karate, explosions and jumping out of planes. Anthony Horowitz is second to none at writing page-turners that children are desperate to read. Now he’s back with Nightshade, his 12th gripping adventure about teenage superspy Alex Rider. Anthony Horowitz is on cracking form here: the plot is gripping, the characters — both familiar and new — are fully fleshed, and it sparkles with his characteristic wit. We could do with Alex Rider now . . . It's a chunky book and all the better for it. Filled with the usual pulse-quickening adventures from the teen super-spy, expect your young readers to disappear inside its pages entirely. Great.

A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
