About the Book

A charming new story from the author of Guess How Much I Love You, with an original take on the subject of childhood anxiety. Once there was a girl called Mindi, who was afraid of something that no one else could see. This thing that she was afraid of, this thing that no one else could see, was a big goose. It came into her room as quietly as a thought comes into your head, and it stayed there for as long as it wanted to... So begins a new story by Sam McBratney, author of publishing phenomenon Guess How Much I Love You – the book which captured the hearts of children and parents all over the world. In Mindi a little girl and her devoted father try everything they can think of to drive away the "big goose", which only she can see. A sensitive exploration of childhood anxiety, the story is told with charm, wit and a touch of whimsy, and is paired with Linda Ólafsdóttir's delicate illustrations. The end result has the feel of a modern fairy tale and is sure to become a bedtime favourite.

About the Author :
Sam McBratney, author of one of the world’s bestselling picture books, Guess How Much I Love You, has won the Bass Ireland Arts Prize and the Bisto Award, twice. He is also the author of the bestselling You’re All My Favourites. Linda Ólafsdóttir's artwork has appeared on stamps, cereal boxes and children's clothing; she is the illustrator of a series of fairy tale retellings, published in the US, and was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This is her first book for Walker.

Review :
The posthumous publication of Mindi and the Goose No One Else Could See reminds us of his best qualities as a writer: gentle wisdom and animals with unforgettable personalities. […] Linda Ólafsdóttir’s soft watercolour illustrations match the tenderness of McBratney's tale, which sees Mindi find solace and strength in unexpected places. From the author of the super Guess How Much I Love You, Sam McBratney, comes a sensitive book about childhood anxiety called Mindi and the Goose No One Else Could See featuring some lovely soft-hued artwork by Linda Ólafsdóttir. While childhood fears are often silly to grown-ups, they are very real and very big to kids. Mindi and the Goose No One Else Could See takes those fears seriously in a warm and sympathetic way. This beautiful story about a girl learning to let go of her fears feels like an instant classic. Linda Ólafsdóttir’s pencil and watercolour illustrations are a perfect fit, highlighting the simple magic of early childhood […] This is a lovely, calm book to read to little ones who may be anxious about something, and a lovely story even if not. McBratney’s text is beautifully written and the illustrations are gently coloured and full of expression. He sadly died last year but his books, like the much-loved Guess How Much I Love You will leave a lasting legacy.
