About the Book

THE LANDMARK INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER ON MINDFULNESS, MEDITATION AND HEALING

Stress. It can sap our energy, undermine our health and even shorten our lives. It makes us more vulnerable to anxiety and depression, disconnection and disease. Based on Jon Kabat-Zinn's renowned mindfulness-based stress reduction programme, this classic, ground-breaking work which gave rise to a whole new field in medicine and psychology - shows you how to use medically proven mind-body approaches derived from meditation and yoga to counteract stress, establish greater balance of body and mind, and stimulate well-being and healing. By engaging in these mindfulness practices and integrating them into your life from moment to moment and from day to day, you can learn to manage chronic pain, promote optimal healing, reduce anxiety and feelings of panic, and improve the overall quality of your life, relationships, and social networks.

Full Catastrophe Living is a book for the young and the old, the well and the ill, and anyone trying to live a healthier and saner life in our fast-paced world.

'To say that this wise, deep book is helpful to those who face the challenges of human crisis would be a vast understatement. It is essential, unique, and, above all, fundamentally healing.' Donald M. Berwick, president emeritus and senior fellow, Institute for Healthcare Improvement

About the Author :
Jon Kabat-Zinn is a scientist, writer and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founding executive director of the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society and founder and former director of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic. He lectures and leads retreats on mindfulness-based stress reduction for health professionals worldwide.

Review :
Kabat-Zinn pioneered the ancient wisdom of mindfulness meditation more than 20 years ago and fused it with Western science at his stress-reduction clinic at the Univeristy of Massachusetts. Working with patients and chronic pain and stress disorders, he synthesised an approach that demystified meditation and turned it into a highly practical tool to address contemporary Western mental-health issues. I cannot recommend this highly enough as an accessible, effective antidote to anxiety, panic and other stress-related disorders - The Times

With beautiful and compassionate clarity, Jon Kabat-Zinn shows us how to cultivate mindful awareness, to learn from the obstacles that arise in nourishing it, and to recognize its fruits. Updated in the light of the latest evidence, we see clearly the extraordinary transformation in evidence based integrative medicine that his work has brought about throughout the world. The first edition was the turning point in the field ofmedicine for the end of the twentieth century, and this edition will inspire a new generation in the twenty-first. An extraordinary achievement

Full Catastrophe Living is a classic, launching and sustaining an extraordinary worldwide surge of interest in the healing powers of mindfulness. With generosity and compassion, Jon Kabat-Zinn offers superbly skilful guidance on the practices of mindfulness, wise and heartful advice on responding mindfully to a wide range of stresses, and a deep knowledge of supporting scientific research. Please read this revolutionary book

Jon Kabat-Zinn's classic work on the practice of mindfulness to alleviate stress and human suffering stands the test of time, a most useful resource and practical guide. I recommend this new edition enthusiastically to doctors, patients, and anyone interested in learning to use the power of focused awareness to meet life's challenges, whether great or small

How wonderful to have a new and updated version of this classic book that invited so many of us down a path that transformed our minds and awakened us to the beauty of each moment, day-by-day, through our lives. This second edition, building on the first, is sure to become a treasured sourcebook and traveling companion for new generations who seek the wisdom to live full and fulfilling lives
