About the Book

A fresh, creative approach to pattern cutting to help you think outside the lines of basic blocks. This third edition of the studio must-have gives you all the inspiration, tools, and confidence you’ll need to adapt basic patterns, experiment with new shapes, and translate exciting designs from the cutting table into polished garments.

Drawing on her 40 years’ experience teaching fashion design, Pat Parish guides you through an accessible approach to translating imaginative 2D designs into exciting 3D womenswear. Designed to inspire creativity through transferrable techniques for any garment, with troubleshooting tips and tricks to help you apply them to your own designs.

Over 200 images showing toiles, catwalk photos, and the construction process, alongside case studies and interviews, will help you to visualize the concepts in 3D. Redesigned with an even clearer step-by-step layout, this third edition features imperial and metric conversions throughout and new work by more than 20 exciting designers using the book’s techniques. There are also two new chapters on draping and geometry and updated information on sustainable practices, reflecting new directions in design, pattern cutting and material use.

An extremely helpful tool for teaching pattern cutting.
