About the Book

Millennial professionals will make up the majority of the workforce in the coming decades. Studies show that they live and work very differently from previous generations, largely due to the rise in digital and smart technologies. Millennial professionals display high levels of individualism and a strong sense of linking their lifestyle and family decisions to their work choices. These lifestyle and work habits, however, have been little studied in academia – despite the fact that these factors will have an important impact on larger human resource debates and policy issues. Millennials at Work argues that the twenty-first century presents many policy challenges to countries in the areas of work, labour and migration. These include: changing attitudes of millennial workers; remote work; unpredictable, unprecedented rise of smart technology and the Internet; and a changing work ethic. This is the age of quick change, and those who can navigate themselves in flux are likely to get ahead. Analysing the work ethic and human resource challenges of the twenty-first century, this book proposes that companies, researchers and policymakers need to be more adaptable, use multidisciplinary assessments, and keep in mind social and technological trends when designing work-related policies. This book is about how the individual plays a significant part in larger social change and why attitudes about work and lifestyle are interlinked. It will appeal to students and scholars of sociology, anthropology, business, policy studies and political economy, as well as to a broader corporate and policymaker audience interested in the millennial workforce, social change and reputation.
