About the Book

Production control systems (PCS) play a critical role in cost optimization of today’s global supply chains. PCS manage the physical material flow in the manufacturing plan and are therefore a key driver of inventory levels and productions cost. Since the introduction of Toyota’s just-in-time philosophy, pull control strategies have been adopted by numerous companies worldwide both in the manufacturing and service sectors. The most well-known pull control strategies are Kanban, constant work-in-process (CONWIP), and their extensions. This book provides some recent developments in production management and presents modeling and analysis tools for pull production control systems. It includes up-to-date academic research findings to manage and control production systems. Chapters will cover new models, strategies, and analyses that are essential for pull production systems.

Table of Contents:
Part 1: Design, Implementation, and Performance Evaluation Chapter 1: Dynamic Card Control with Order Release Strategy in Hybrid Systems Chapter 2: Performance Evaluation of Pull Systems Chapter 3: Takt Time Grouping: A Method for Implementing Kanban-Flow Manufacturing in a High Variation, Unbalanced Process Chapter 4: Information Systems – A Pathway for Successful Lean Implementation Chapter 5: Kanban Allocation Policies of Multiproduct Production Control Strategies Chapter 6: A Framework for WIP Calculation ion Pull Production Systems Part 2: Review on Pull Systems Chapter 7: Pull/Hybrid Production Control Systems: A Literature Review Chapter 8: Multi Criteria Decision Making in Pull Systems: A Review Part 3: Case Studies and Pull Systems Implementation Chapter 9: A Case Study on the CONWIP Design Framework for CONWIP Scheme Making in the One-of-a-Kind Production Chapter 10: Nested CONWIP: A Novel Model to Regulate Complex Wafer Fabrication Chapter 11: Mapping Dimensions of Corporate and Competitive Strategies
