About the Book

This book is for those that have struggled with the concept of statistics, have a genuine fear of data, and think the world of continuous improvement and experimentation is designed for few to understand. This book answers the question, why can’t every operator, technician, student, manager and leader understand the fundamentals of data and the science of data analysis for continuous improvement. There are many books on teaching and many books on magic and juggling, but few books connect the two. This book will change the learning process by using magic and juggling to explain probability theory and statistics to front-line operators so they can understand how to utilize the data.

Table of Contents:
Introduction. The Use of Card Magic and Probability Theory. Juggling as a Technique to Learn Continuous Improvement. Hypothesis Testing and Design of Experiments the Easy Way. Welcome the Experimental Helicopter. Putting it All Together and How to Inspire High School and College Students.

About the Author :
William (Bill) Hooper is President of William Hooper Consulting Inc. in South Bend, Indiana a consulting firm he started in 2012 after more than thirty years working numerous positions from a chemical plant operator to Vice President of International Operations for a major metals fabrication company. After becoming one of only twelve American Society for Quality (ASQ)’s Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Bill started consulting in the science of Continuous improvement developing numerous methods of teaching front line operators, technicians and Managers the application of Six Sigma in addition to utilizing Design of Experiments in over 16 Manufacturing plants. Along the way, Bill expanded two methods that breakdown the barriers students had when learning probability theory and Design of Experiments – magic and juggling. The former, magic, he learned as one of 25 magicians that entertained and taught magic in the Chicago area Children’s ward Hospitals. He later added the art of juggling to the courses as technique for data, design of Experiments and continuous improvement; soon followed by experimental helicopters for Design of Experiments and stereoscopic techniques for explaining three dimensional views of cube plots critical for understanding Design of Experiments. Bill has written numerous articles on how to communicate and explain Bayesian Statistics. He has also written other articles on innovative ways to teach probability theory and Six Sigma. His conference speaking schedule includes numerous presentations (or commonly called shows), on the topic of the use of magic, juggling or other creative techniques for teaching Six Sigma, probability, and continuous improvement. Bill Hooper has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, MBA from Indiana University and has five ASQ Certifications in Quality Engineering, Manager of Quality/Operations Excellence, Reliability Engineering, Six Sigma Black Belt and Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He and his son Todd are also professional jugglers between them juggling seven pins, six knives and six torches at numerous shows and venues. They are also the creators of the very popular workshop, “juggling for creativity, teamwork and fitness”.
