About the Book

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1881 edition. Excerpt: ...acable, and, though not a naturalist, I have had some experience with fish in tropical waters. It is to be hoped that Mr. Munro's article may be the means of our acquiring some information as to this curious and certainly inconvenient taste on the part of some fish for iron wire. I am afraid the only means of avoiding such damage would be to lay a heavier type of cable; for, as these attacks are heard of from many quarters, and as the fish supposed to be guilty of the damage are widely distributed, and are found over large areas, I do not well see how we can avoid them, since they have no particular haunt. Everywhere outside the part covered by the shell the percha was in perfectly good condition, but directly under the shell the percha was quite hard and brittle, and showed two small transverse cracks. ' I am afraid that I am rambling beyond the subject of Mr. Munro's article, but the matter is so interesting, and withal so important, that, once started on the subject of faults caused by external agency, it is difliculty to pull up. E. MARCH Wsss. To THE EDITOR or THE ELECTRICIAN. SIR..-I have been much interested in Mr. Munro's paper. My opinion on the fish bites, so called, being caused by...
