Erschien es nicht besser, sich zu Fuss nach Suden oder Osten, bis zu irgend einem Flecken, vielleicht nach Diachinsk oder einem andern, durchzuschlagen, und sich dort um jeden Preis ein Pferd zu verschaffen? Jedenfalls war das der einzige Ausweg, und sofort wandte sich Michael Strogoff, indem er das Ufer des Obi verliess, nach der rechten Seite von Kolywan. Gerade jetzt krachten die Geschutze lauter als je. Bald zungelten Flammen an der rechten Seite der Stadt in die Hohe; die Feuersbrunst ergriff ein ganzes Stadtviertel von Kolywan. Michael Strogoff lief, was er laufen konnte, quer durch die Steppe und suchte den Schutz einiger Baume zu erlangen, welche da und dort verstreut standen, als eine Abtheilung tartarischer Cavallerie auf dem rechten Stromufer erschien. Michael Strogoff konnte seine Flucht in der vorigen Richtung nicht mehr fortsetzen; die Reiter pg 1-235 sprengten auf die Stadt zu, und es ware ihm schwer geworden, ihnen zu entgehen. Da bemerkte er neben einem kleinen, aber dichten Gebusch ein isolirtes Hauschen, das er wohl zu erreichen hoffen durfte, bevor jene ihn sahen. Michael Strogoff hatte nichts Anderes zu thun, als dort hin zu eilen, sich daselbst zu verstecken, um Etwas zu bitten, nothigenfalls sich anzueignen, womit er seine Krafte wieder herstellen konnte, denn er war nun wirklich erschopft von Hunger und Strapazen. Er sturzte also auf dieses hochstens eine halbe Werst entfernte Hauschen zu. Naher gekommen sah er erst, dass dieses Gebaude ein Telegraphenbureau war. Zwei Drahte liefen davon nach Osten und Westen aus und ein dritter Draht war in der Richtung nach Kolywan gespannt. Wohl hatte man voraussetzen konnen, dass dieses Bureau unter den jetzigen Verhaltnissen verlassen sei, doch mochte dem sein wie ihm wollte, Michael Strogof
