Dans certaines batteries, la moitie arriere du reduit est protegee par une voute en beton, a l'abri de laquelle les artilleurs peuvent evoluer. Derriere toutes les batteries, a une profondeur de 1 m. 20 a 1 m. 30 sous la surface du roc, circule un souterrain qui fait communiquer entre eux les logements des pieces et magasins adjacents, et qui joint les batteries les unes aux autres, ainsi qu'aux grands magasins de munitions. Dans les batteries comportant des canons de 9cm, chaque piece, avec son logement, ses abris et magasins, occupe, sur la ligne de feu, un front de 15 metres. La profondeur du logement est de 1 m. 20 a 1 m. 30. Les abris sont carres et mesurent 2 metres de cote. Les grands magasins ont 4 metres sur 2 et les petits 1 m. 50 sur 1 m. 50. Les pieces de 9% sont du dernier systeme Krupp a tir rapide et peuvent tirer quinze coups a la minute, avec une portee de 4.000 metres. Coupe schematique d'une batterie turque avec ses abris et magasins. Les pieces de 12cm et de 15cm, systeme Krupp ancien, occupent un front de 20 metres. La profondeur de leur logement est de 1 m. 60. Les abris carres ont 2 metres de cote, les magasins 4 metres sur 2 et 2 m. 50 sur 2 m. 50. Enfin, en des endroits parfaitement dissimules et que l'etat-major allemand croyait invulnerables (l'experience a prouve le contraire), sont, ou etaient, deux grands magasins a munitions et deux petits. L'ensemble est mis a l'abri des attaques d'infanterie par des mines et des reseaux de fils de fer barbeles. Tout ce qui precede...
