Moral fur Psychologen. - Keine Colportage-Psychologie treiben! Nie beobachten, um zu beobachten! Das giebt eine falsche Optik, ein Schielen, etwas Erzwungenes und Ubertreibendes. Erleben als Erleben-Wollen - das gerath nicht. Man darf nicht im Erlebniss nach sich hinblicken, jeder Blick wird da zum "bosen Blick." Ein geborner Psycholog hutet sich aus Instinkt, zu sehn, um zu sehn; dasselbe gilt vom gebornen Maler. Er arbeitet nie "nach der Natur," - er uberlasst seinem Instinkte, seiner camera obscura das Durchsieben und Ausdrucken des "Falls," der "Natur," des "Erlebten..". Das Allgemeine erst kommt ihm zum Bewusstsein, der Schluss, das Ergebniss: er kennt jenes willkurliche Abstrahiren vom einzelnen Falle nicht. - Was wird daraus, wenn man es anders macht? Zum Beispiel nach Art der Pariser romanciers gross und klein Colportage-Psychologie treibt? Das lauert gleichsam der Wirklichkeit auf, das bringt jeden Abend eine Handvoll Curiositaten mit nach Hause... Aber man sehe nur, was zuletzt herauskommt - ein Haufen von Klecksen, ein Mosaik besten...
