There has been a fall of 50 persons in the density of the Senior and of 37 in the case of the Junior, since 1891. (). Town and village.--There are two towns, Dewas and Sarangpur which are shared by the two States. Dewas has an area of 0-53 square mile and a population of 15,403. There are 238 villages in the Senior and 237 in the Junior Branch. The average village population of the Senior Branch is 260 and of the Junior 230. The commonest village group is that oi" under 500 " in both states. V. Religions.--The characteristic of both States is Hindu, each having about 85 per cent, of them. The Senior Branch has 85 per cent. Hindus, 1 per cent. Anitnists, 1 per cent. Jains, 11 percent. Mahomedans. The Junior Branch has 85 per cent. Hindus, 3 per cent. Animists, 1 per cent. Jains, 9 per cent. Mahomedaus. VI. Age, Sex and Civil Condition: --(1) Proportion of the Sexes, --There are 938 females to 1,000 males in the Senior Branch and 960 in the Junior, As in other cases the difference between men and women is less than in 1891. There is a defect of 2,000 women in the Senior and of 1,116 in the Junior Branch. These figures also show a smaller difference than in 1891. (2) Civil Condition.--It is interesting to note the difference in the number of married fduiales in the two States. There are 3 per cent, more girls between 0-10 married in the Junior than in the Senior Branch. A similar difference is kept up at the other ages. There are 101 wives to 100 husbands in the Senior, and 99 in the Junior Branch. The Jains of the Junior Branch seem especially addicted to matrimony. VII.
