EXPENDITURES AND RECEIPTS. The first column of the following table shows the total expenditures each year on the canal system of Ohio, from 1825 to June 30, 1916. The figures for the period 1825 to 1839, inclusive, are taken from a special report of the Ohio Canal Fund Commissioners, in reply to a resolution of the senate, February 24, 1840. From 1840 to the present time the expenditures are taken from the annual reports of the different State Auditors.
