Subordinate to it as a phonetic are--JQ tndn, win, to hear (195); fa m&n, w&n, to ask (72); c m&n, min, the southern savages about Fuchow (188); Jj ng&n, yin, to remonstrate gently or respectfully (183, 72). Other derivatives are--f" ch&n, to ascend (12 correctly, 12), which is phonetic in jf (140), (130), lun, lin, a yellow bird like a thrush (239), tsun, chin, to advance (49, 94), and j!t m&n min, mosquitoes (188/;;'09 (l4);Jcj (127); f$ (138); ctitim, ch'an cfcong, ch'wang), a horse rushing through a door (268); shan, shwaii, a bolt (1, a modern word). sJ/p ( p ) mau, a double door open; the fourth of the twelve cyclical characters. This is a phonetic. It is doubtful whether the two following are derived from this or the next, the Shwoh-wan makes them follow this: --i2 m&u, to trade (232), and jjj) liu, liau, the ears ringing (195). "9p yitu, yu, a double door barred (at the top, 1). This is used for the tenth of the twelve cyclical characters, with reference perhaps to the closing of the day or of the year, as Cjp refers to the opening; but (220), the common tenth character, has a different origin fr...
