About the Book

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1813. Excerpt: ... ADVERTISEMENT. CONCERNING THIS EDITION. The high reputation of Mr. Cavallo as a Philosopher, the present great scarcity of his Elements of Natural or Experimental Philosophy, and the numerous inquiries made for this work, are the motives from which this edition of it has been undertaken. As to the plan, upon which it has been conducted, it is necessary to mention, that though the original text will be found considerably abridged, nothing material has been omitted; the reductions for the most part consisting only in the suppression of such phrases, or parts of phrases, as did not appear indispensably necessary for a thorough understanding of the subject. These reductions have put it in the power of the editor to find room for a number of useful additions, which he has borrowed from various esteemed authors. Whoever wishes to see a complete account not only of the few machines Vol. I. b described by Cavallo, but also of a great variety of others relative to the same doctrine of motion, may consult Gravesande's Mathem. Elements of Natural Philosophy, translated by Desaguliers; Adams's Lectures on Natural and Experimental Philosophy, edit...
