About the Book

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1868. Excerpt: ... the letter to take to the post, I quite omitted it, although it was the chief thing I had in my head all the time I was writing; so wasn't that stupid! I have been Jhinking the matter over again to-day; and the result is that I have decided to devote a whole letter to the important subject, if you will not think that I am troubling you too much. I am not much of a traveller, not being past my teens yet; and I have been waiting for a railway to be brought past Clynnog before I commence to ramble very far. The principal place I have ever been to is Carnarvon Castle, but I did not think much of that old, straggling, tumbledown of a building which some people make such a fuss about, and put pictures of it in their reticules which they buy in the town on market days, and which.they show to everybody when they get home, and hang up over the chimney shelf. Why, would you believe it, sir? the place has got no roof to it! and it is much too big for any decent family to occupy, even for Betty Jones here, who lives not far from the Clynnog Inn, and who ha3 been blessed with fifteen children--all of which are alive and doing well! Well, as I was saying, I am not much of a traveller, but I find in the papers, and in the Family Herald, that balls and concerts are quite of common occurrence in nearly every part of the kingdom save some parts of Wales, and this dull Clynnog of ours. I was with Charles at a Christmas party once, and then we had such a beautiful dance; but they left off a great deal too soon, as I should have liked to have danced all the night long. It was so pleasant, you know--so delightful, and we had so much fun and merriment, and everybody enjoyed themselves. But here, in this part of the country, there is no dancing nor anything of the kind to be had...
