Die Wahrnehmung dieser innigen Wechselbeziehung wird auf einer hohern Stufe des Bewusstseins bei noch vorherrschender Sinnesthatigkeit allmalig klarer, und legt in Verbindung mit einem ursprunglichen dunklen Streben nach dem, was die Pforten der Sinne Angenehmes und Reizendes biethen, dem Menschen die Frage nahe: Bin ich etwa nichts mehr und nichts weniger, als ein Gebilde gleich denen, die mich umgeben?
