Excerpt: The Arm ( Gouwan, literally meaning "Strong Arm") is one of the new weapons introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising. It looks like a large, metal hammer that fits firmly over Pits entire arm. For long-range attacks, the hammer arm houses a cannon that can shoot powerful fire shots at enemies. Not to be confused with the Mallet. The Arm is a blunt weapon that is very effective for melee attacks, although its range is rather limited like that of the Claws. The end of the weapon resembles a large hammer that can open up to reveal a small cannon barrel. This cannon can shoot large rocks of fire as its charged attack that move slower than other projectile attacks. In rapid fire, it shoots smaller rocks similar to its charged shots. As of now, three variations of the Arm have been revealed: A Back Shield is a new item that appears in Kid Icarus: Uprising. It looks like a small, golden shield with a purple gem at the center of it that constantly floats behind Pit when he picks one up. As its name suggests, its primary function is to protect Pit from enemy attacks coming from behind, and will rotate accordingly with his movement.
