Excerpt: The Abyss diver, originally EvilDiver, is a recurring enemy in the Dragon Quest Series. The Abyss diver is a large aquatic monster similar to the mythological Leviathan. It is purple in color, has a long neck, and webbed feet. It is quite powerful when the player first meets it. Its breath attacks can devastate low level parties. The EvilDiver can be found in the Underwater City in the past and the Dark Palace. Equipped with almost everything you can think of on a stereotypical demon, the Archdemon (originally Bullwong), bears wings, horns, a spiked tail, and a pitchfork. With stats to match its bulky purple body, these monsters are usually a force to be reckoned with; capable of dealing heavy physical hits, but also casting advanced offensive magics to destroy its opponents.
