Excerpt: 101 was a fast and violent tracked robot with a zero ground clearance and turning circle that competed in the third, fourth and fifth series of Robot Wars. It received its name because it cost the team 1.01 to put together, due to the majority of its parts already being in the team's possession or scrounged. Another possible influence for the name was Room 101 from the George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, as mentioned by Craig Charles after its Vengeance battle. 101's best performance came in Series 3, where it lost in the second round of the Semi-Finals to Hypno-Disc on a very tight judges' decision.
