Excerpt: Alpha is an antagonist from the 2009 Disney/Pixar film, Up, and is the leader of Charles Muntz's pack of dogs. Alpha is a Doberman Pinscher, and is assisted by Beta and Gamma, a Rottweiler and bulldog, respectively. Like Muntz's other dogs, Alpha is able to communicate with humans by way of a translator on his collar. For much of the film, however, due to a loose wire, the translator emits Alpha's dialogue in a comically high-pitched voice. When Muntz repairs it, Alpha's "real," extremely deep-pitched voice is heard. In the film's climax, Dug traps Alpha in the "Cone of Shame," an Elizabethan collar, designed as a form of humiliation.
