Excerpt: Assassination is a multiplayer mode on Gears of War. Each team is assigned a leader - either Colonel Hoffman (COG) or RAAM (Locust) - and the goal of the game is to kill the other teams leader (Hoffman or RAAM). One special rule encourages leaders to actively engage in fighting: players cannot pick up a given weapon type on the map until their team leader has picked up that type, thus "unlocking" them for his team. For example, the leader can drop his Lancer and pick up a Longshot and then drop it to revert to the Lancer. Only then can his teammates pick up the Longshot. If the leader wants to keep the weapon, he can; others can pick it up after the weapon respawns (roughly 30 seconds after it is first picked up). The same goes for the other weapons on the map - if players want it, they can get it only after their leader picks up one of the same type. The player on the winning team who kills the opposing leader becomes his team leader in the following round. The player on the losing team with the most points becomes the new leader of his team. This Multiplayer Mode is ultimately replaced by Guardian in Gears of War 2. The Battle Cam...
