Excerpt: The Ajina are group of stealthy, Southern Continent-based warriors. Unsurprisingly for an organization that is shrouded in mystery, no one is quite sure when, where, or why the Ajina were founded. Myth points to a group of Southern Continent Matoran that didn't want to rely on Toa for protection, but even those myths are sketchy at best. Over the years since they first appeared, the Ajina have grown into a group that operate all over the universe, being notorious for their near-mastery of many fighting disiplines. They have been known to protect villages that lack Toa when requested, but whatever motives they otherwise might have are unknown. Though they were founded by Matoran, the Ajina's membership has expanded to include members of nearly every species, including Toa, which contributes to their knowledge of martial arts. All Ajina that live in a certain area are led by a Master -- usually the most accomplished member of the local organization -- who in turn reports to a Master that oversee the Ajina of an entire land mass.
