It refers to the time when the Spacing Guild established a monopoly on all space travel, transport, and Imperial banking throughout the known universe in the year 0/11,075 A.D. This date was chosen as an important date to begin counting years because the establishment of the Spacing Guild's monopoly meant that interstellar travel and finance became more uniform and orderly. This also meant that parties were limited in where and when they could wage war on eachother. This restriction was called the Guild Peace.
