Excerpt: Abraham Bernstein is the grandfather in the Bernstein household. When the Maxwell family needs shelter to escape the Visitors, Abraham offers them the shed in the back yard of the Bernstein house. Being a Holocaust survivor, he sees parallels between the Visitors persecution of the scientists and the Nazi persecution of the jews. After the Visitors are informed that the Maxwell family is being given shelter (presumably by an enraged Daniel Bernstein), they arrive at the Bernstein residence to arrest the refugees, but find only Abraham in the shed.
