Auszug: ...Mihiel blieb von einem Detachement besetzt. Aus Ligny erfuhr man, dass Wittgenstein an der Marne bei Ioinville stehe. Die Operationslage des Feindes war noch vollkommen unklar. Von Vitry aufwarts bildet die Marne einen ostlich vorspringenden Winkel, an dessen Spitze St. Dizier liegt. War Napoleons Absicht, den Feind an der Aube zu treffen, so war St. Dizier ihm ein Seitenposten, um jene Bewegung zu decken. Dass er Bar le Dne auf dem Wege von St. Dizier nach Verdun besetzt hatte, schien zu zeigen, dass er nicht auf die Aube, sondern die Marne aufwarts auf Ioinville und Chaumont operiren wolle. Blieb der Feldmarschall in dem Plane, den seine Dispositionen vom 24. Ianuar andeuteten, so war es ohne Nachtheil, dass York den Ausgang seiner Bewegung von St. Mihiel nach Commerey verlegt hatte; aber es war unklar geworden, ob York nicht, abweichend von den Voraussetzungen jener Disposition, seinen Stoss auf Bar le Dne richten musse. Mit Spannung sah man der Meldung Henkels entgegen, ob der Feind Bar le Dne halte oder verlassen habe. Noch am Abend (des 28sten) kam die Meldung, dass der Feind Bar le Due geraumt, sich auf St. Dizier zuruckgezogen habe; er selbst sei in Bar le Due, man sage in der Stadt, dass der Kaiser in der Nahe auf einem Schloss Oudinots ubernachtet habe und deshalb 2WN Mann zu seiner Deckung hieher gesandt gewesen seien. Zugleich kam die Nachricht ein, dass am Tage vorher (2?sten) ein Gefecht bei St. Dizier gewesen sei, bei dem man auch den Kaiser und seine Garden gesehen haben wollte. Es war General Lauskoy, den Napoleon geworfen hatte. Nach den letzten Anordnungen des Feldmarschall, die York erhalten, ..."
