Aber wohl vollzog sie sich ebenso unaufhaltsam und unwiderruflich, wie die vorhergehende Wandlung. Denn uber die rein empiristische Betrachtungsweise seiner Probleme, uber die principielle Beschrankung auf das Erfahrungsgebiet, musste Nietzsche irgend wann einmal wieder hinaus; einer Philosophie der -letzten und hochsten Dinge- in irgend einer Form konnte er, der ganzen Art seines Geistes nach, nicht dauernd entsagen. Es konnte sich im Grunde nur darum handeln, auf welchem stillen Seitenweg er sich wieder dorthin zuruckschleichen wurde, --wo die Gotter und die Uebermenschen hausen. Nietzsche schreibt einmal an Ree: -Ach, liebster, guter Freund, mit dem schmerzlichsten Bedauern lese ich------die Nachricht Ihres Krankseins.
