Composition of two Simple Harmonie Motions.--If a particle have at the same time two different Simple Harmonic Motions we can find the resulting motion. To take a few simple cases first: --1. When the two motions are in the same direction, in the same phase, and of the same amplitude, the resulting motion will be a Simple Harmonic Motion of double amplitude. 2. Vhen the motions are in the same straight line and of the same amplitude, but differing in phase by half a period, the result will be rest. Thus, in Fig. 6, if one motion alone would cause the particle to be at A and the othermotion alone at A, the result would be rest at the point 0. 3. When the motions are of the same amplitude and phase, but at right angles to one another as AOA, BOB1, the resulting motion will be in the line POP1. 4. Vhen the motions are at right angles and differ in phase by-period, the result will be circular motion.
