Ship. --The suffix ship, in such words as friendship, hardship, lordship, partnership, etc., may be written with the stern Ish, usually disjoined, but occasionally joined. But if final ship forms an essential part of a noun or verb, as in flagship, unship, etc., it should be written in full. 651. With."--The syllable with, whether it occurs at the beginning, at the end, or in the middle of words, as in the words withdraw, withstand, wherewith, forthwith, wherewithal, etc., is written with the stem Dhee or Ith, according to which sound is given to the th. 652.
