Aber gerade eine solche scheibenartige Gestalt bat ja auch der von mir kurzlich, in unserer Sitzung am 22. Mai d. J. beschriebene Stein von Stannern, und noch mehr wurde sich hier zur Vergleichung die grosse Meteoreisenmasse von Agram gunstig darstellen, von welcher beide Seiten der flach-scheihenartigen Gestalt so verschiedene Beschaffenheit besitzen, dass sie mit grosster Wahrscheinlichkeit als ebenfalls in ihrer Ebene um ihre Bahnrichtung rotirend angenommen werden darf. Recht sehr verdient sie in dieser Beziehung eine monographische Behandlung. Unwillkurlich wird man bei solchen Betrachtungen auch auf die Gestalt des Ancile gebracht, jenes schildformigen Stuckes Eisen, das zur Zeit des Numa Pompilius vom Himmel gefallen sein sollte, und dem noch eilf andere nachgeschmiedet wurden, um es sicherer zu bewahren, welche man nicht von demselben unterscheiden konnte. Es ist freilich das Alles aus der Zeit der Sagen, aber eine flachscheibenformige Gestalt, vielleicht dunner als alle in neuerer Zeit wirklich bekannt gewordenen, lasst sich wohl doch nach Wahrscheinlichkeit annehmen. Das Sarepta-Eisen durfte ubrigens, wohl nicht sehr lang den verandernden Einwirkungen der Atmosphare ausgesetzt gewesen sein, da es von der Oberflache weg kaum durch Rost angegriffen ist. In den tieferen Stellen findet sich freilich etwas Brandrinde, nach der Farbe des Striches in dem Zustande von Eisenoxydhydrat oder Brauneisenstein, aber gegen die scharfen Kanten zu ist auch dieser ganz weggefegt, und es tritt das Eisen nur oberflachlich braun gefarbt, ganz bis an die...
