Det er tre manuskripter som hovedkilder for irsk mytologi: Lebor na hUidre (i dag bevart i biblioteket til Det kongelige irske akademi) som er datert fra slutten av 1000-tallet og begynnelsen av 1100-tallet; Leinsterboken (som er i biblioteket til Trinity College i Dublin) fra tidlig pa 1100-tallet; og Rawlinsonmanuskriptet B 502 (som er huset i biblioteket Bodleian Library ved University of Oxford). Til tross for dateringen av disse kildene er det meste av materialet som de inneholder fra for de ble skrevet ned.
