Extracte: Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton CVO, OBE, Kt (15 de febrer del 1874 - 5 de gener del 1922) era un explorador angloirlandes, principalment recordat per la seva expedicio a l'Antartic, de 1914 a 1916, amb el vaixell Endurance. Va rebre l'Orde Reial de Victoria i l'Orde de l'Imperi Britanic per les seves contribucions. Nascut a Kilkea, al comtat de Kildare (Irlanda), Shackleton va ser membre de les quatre expedicions antartiques, tres de les quals va liderar. Despres de l'expedicio Nimrod (1907-1909) se'l reconeixia per la consecucio del record d'arribar a la latitud 88 23'S, a 180 km del Pol Sud.
