Show that the angular momentum of a rigid body, about an axis perpen dicular to the plane of its motions of rotation and translation, may be divided into two parts, one being that of the body as though condensed to a particle at its former centre of mass G, and the other being that of rotation of the actual body about a parallel axis through G as though it were stationary. 3.
