Della madre, Luisa de Benedictis, ereditera la fine sensibilita, del padre, Francesco Paolo (nato Rapagnetta, acquisi il cognome d'Annunzio da un ricco parente che lo adotto), il temperamento sanguigno, la passione per le donne e la disinvoltura nel contrarre debiti, cosa che porto la famiglia da una condizione agiata ad una difficile situazione economica.
