Witness then explained the results of his valuation of the works. Deducting the interest on the loan capital gave a corrected profit for the past year of 722. Putting this at twenty-eight years' purchase gave, 20,216. Then came the consideration of the prospective profits lost to the shareholders. Taking the increase in the sale of gas at 19 per cent., the additional profits on the annual sale of gas would be for 1902 64 on 8,525,000 cubic feet; 226 in 1903 on 10,145,000 cubic feet; 418, 14s. in 1904 on 12,072,000 cubic feet; and 648, 6s. in 1905 on 14,365,900 cubic feet. The total extra profits on the four years would be, 1,357. Twenty-eight years'purchase would give a sum of, 18,144. As this full amount would not be realised until four years from the present date, this should be deferred on the 4 per cent, basis for four years, which reduced the amount to, 15,513-This, added to the, 20,216, gave a grand total of, 35,729. As the works were for the most part equal to double the present duty, there would only be needed to meet this extra business an extra expenditure of about. 2,000 on retorts, mains, services and meters; and deducting this left the net value at, 33,729; to which the usual 10 per cent, for compulsion, costs of winding up, stocks, ...
